“You Raise Me Up…”

This is a dedication to those who have provided inspiration through love, through kindness or acts of community service.
“When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary
When troubles come and my heart burdened be
Then I am still and wait here in the silence
Until you come and sit awhile with me

You raise me up so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be

There is no life – no life without it’s hunger
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly
But when you come and I am filled with wonder
Sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity

You raise me up so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be…”

“Canyonlands”

_DSC0418

These two photographs were taken two different days at sunrise in Canyonlands National Park (Utah).

The featured photograph is “Mesa Arch”  which is a  landmark in the Island in the Sky region of Canyonlands National Park.  This pothole arch spans across the mesa’s edge, framing a scenic canyon vista in the distance.  Sunrise provides a distinctive glow under the top frame of the arch.

Above is “Dead Horse Point” overlook with its breathtaking panorama of the Colorado River and sculpted pinnacles and buttes.  The plateau is surrounded by sheer cliffs 2,000 feet.  The legend of “Dead Horse Point”states that around the turn of the century the point was used as a corral for wild mustangs roaming the mesa top.

“Mystery”

Dense fog embraced the landscape after a full day of rain.  Therefore, I shifted my photographic intention to emphasize shapes and design.  I ultimately converted my images to black and white to convey a sense of mystery created by the atmospheric conditions.  I love the fact that one can still see the image of one of the arches and its window into eternity in the above photograph.

“Raw Beauty”

_DSC1369

Arches National Park is a land of rock and sand where forces of erosion have sculpted an unusual and inviting landscape.  It contains the greatest concentration of natural stone openings in the world – over 2,000.  Views are vast, colors are vibrant and the skyline is pierced with magnificent rock towers.  This is raw beauty.  Amazing!

“Mystic Wonder”

“When your spirit cries for peace, come to a world of

canyons, deep in an old land.  Feel the exhalation of

high plateaus, the strength of moving water, the simplicity

of sand and grass, and the silence of growth.”
